First arrival at North Sulawesi (let alone Asia) can be a very exciting experience. This is why we put together this list of practicalities to help you best prepare for your trip. If you have any questions, let us know and we will answer any questions or concerns you might have.

Getting there

Manado International Airport (MDC)

Visa requirements

Passport holders of 140 countries can enter Indonesia Visa-free for up to 30 days, provided your passport is valid for at least 6 months from the day of arrival.

Airport & resort transfers​ (direct bookings)

Our driver will welcome you at the airport arrival gate.

To Manado​

From the airport, a car ride of about 30 minutes takes you to the village of Molas, where our Manado resort is located.

To Lembeh​

From the airport the car takes 90 mins to the harbor of Bitung. Our boat takes you across the Lembeh Strait for 15 minutes to our resort.

Money & ATMs


At the airport you can find plenty of ATMs that accept major bank, debit and credit cards. Most ATMs give out 50,000 or 100,000 bills. IDR 100,000 is the equivalent of about 6 to 7 euros.


Indonesian Rupiah is the main currency used. Not to be confused with Rupee, which is Indian.


We ask all our guests not to tip any of our staff directly. We have tip boxes at both our front offices and we share the tip money with all the staff.

Money at the resorts

You don't need to have any cash at the resort. On checking out, you can pay with Visa, MasterCard or cash. We can change US dollars or Euros, depending on availability.

Paying for things

In small shops, cash is king. In the mall you can pay with credit cards.

Bunaken Entrance Fee

All divers are required to pay IDR 150,000 to be able to dive at the Bunaken National Marine Park.

Climate & weather


Hot and tropical! All year round, the temperature is at the 30ºC (86ºF) range.

The rainy season

It rains more between the months of November through April or May. Starting in May, rainfall is much less until November.

Water temperatures

Around Bunaken and Manado, the water is around the 28ºC (82.4ºF) range. At Lembeh, it's usually a little colder: 26ºC (78.8ºF) up to 28ºC (82.4ºF).


Stay out of the sun if you can, use a reef-safe sunscreen and wear sunglasses and a hat.



Many people in North Sulawesi don't speak English very well, except for the cheerful "Hello mister!".

Languages spoken at our resorts

English, German and Indonesian spoken at both resorts. In addtion, Japanese and French is spoken at Thalassa Manado.



Wi-Fi is available at both our resorts. In Thalassa Manado Wi-Fi is only available in the lounge.

SIM Cards

Prepaid cards for your phone can be bought almost anywhere. 4G reception is generally adequate.



Malaria is extremely uncommon in North Sulawesi. We don't recommend using malaria pills.


All of our rooms come with mosquito nets. Using a mosquito spray is enough to deter the critters.


Consult with your doctor to see if any vaccinations are required for this area.

Ear problems when diving

Rinse out your ears with fresh water after each dive to prevent problems.

Food & water

Dietary requirements

We always serve vegetarian food besides our meat options. In case of food allergies, please inform us upon arrival.


Our tap water comes from natural wells, but contains a lot of minerals. Brushing your teeth with it is fine, but to be on the safe side, don't drink it. Drinking water is available in your room, the lounges and the boats at all times.

Help take care of the environment

No plastic policy

We ask our guests to refrain from using single-use plastic, including bottles, bags, and straws.

Dive against debris

If you encounter debris while diving, feel free to pick it up and bring it to the surface. Our team will dispose of it properly.

European Type C/F sockets (two prongs) at 220 volts.

Power outages

Blackouts do occur on occasion. Our resorts come with surge protectors.


Our resorts are smoke-free, except in front of your room and the lounge's smoking areas.


We have a wheelchair-accessible Cottage in Thalassa Manado. Thalassa Lembeh is only partially wheelchair-accessible.

Babysitting services

Our staff are expert baby sitters, please let us know if you require this service.


Shampoo and bodywash are available in our rooms. We ask our guests to bring their own toothbrush and toothpaste.
